This is a collection of life drawings I've done in the last year.
All of these are in charcoal or crayon on newsprint.

Look, ma, no hands! The instructor suggested we use light circles to
block out the forms and then select our contours from those lines.
This was the result. I think she's got a nice weight to her. |

This one is a page of gesture drawings, warm up exercises. These were
unusually sucessfull. I think we wound up getting some long poses
because the instructor was out making photo copies, may have
contributed to the refinement. |

The best bit here is the foreshortening on her left arm. I usually
end up with mitten hands, but I took the time to do these hands right
and it was worth it. Please ignore the legs and feet; apparently I did. |

This is one of those extraordinarily lucky pieces. It's a matter of a
handfull of lines and they all fell in just the place each needed to
go. It would have been nice if they'd fallen a little lower so I
didn't run out of room for her head... but, hey, I'll take what I can get.

This I did out of frustration with myself after having made a number
of mistakes with figure proportioning. One of my instructors had
suggested that if you're getting frustrated just find the fastest way
to switch modes, whether that's putting down the charcoal and picking
up a crayon, or choosing a different subject... the point is, just
keep drawing. |

I wanted to get in closer and do some more shading with these. I like
the knee much more than the arm. There's a frustrated scribble over a
botched attempt at the hand on the left. |

This one was done toward the end of the gesture drawing class. This
was a short study... probably only a couple minutes. |
